Hailee Steinfeld Shares Her Journey to a PlantBased Diet

Hailee Steinfeld, the talented actress and singer, recently opened up about her experience with a plant-based diet, shedding light on how it has impacted her health and lifestyle. In her “Beau Society” newsletter, she revealed that her decision to adopt a plant-based lifestyle stemmed from dealing with stomach sensitivities.

“I’m not vegan, but I did follow a plant-based diet for a few years when I was having a lot of stomach sensitivities,” the 28-year-old star disclosed. She explained that after consulting with a gastroenterologist and undergoing extensive testing, she discovered that her body was reacting negatively to many foods she had been consuming.

Steinfeld emphasized that it wasn’t necessarily the foods themselves that were unhealthy, but rather that she had been overindulging. “So I went plant-based, and it was wonderful. I actually realized that there are so many meals I eat—and love—that are ‘vegan’ and I wasn’t even conscious of it,” she noted.

While she did not specify the exact reasons or timing for moving away from the plant-based diet, Steinfeld has consistently expressed a commitment to maintaining a healthy relationship with food. In a previous interview with Women’s Health, she stated, “My relationship to food is rather simple. I eat when I’m hungry. I eat so that I can train; I don’t train so that I can eat. I feel I can perform to the best of my ability if I have that mindset.”

Steinfeld’s culinary skills have also blossomed during her journey. She described her recent cooking endeavors, including making cacio e pepe ravioli, which she playfully referred to as “chef’s kiss.” “Making pasta is time-consuming, but dare I say, fairly easy,” she shared, adding that she also prepared bruschetta and is excited to try a chicken and artichoke recipe from Alison Roman next.

In addition to her culinary pursuits, Steinfeld balances her diet with a robust workout routine. She believes that physical activity enhances her mental well-being. “I’ve never left a workout or a gym session feeling anything other than great and happier,” she explained. “Just knowing what my body is capable of and being able to challenge myself… it does something for you mentally that not a lot of other things do.”

Steinfeld often trains with her father, who she credits for recognizing her potential and motivating her. “He believes in me and he pushes me and knows what I’m capable of,” she stated. She highlighted the importance of finding balance in life, understanding personal goals, and practicing self-compassion.

Her fitness routine also includes walks with her two dogs, Martini and Brando, who she affectionately mentioned in her newsletter. “I actually never planned on getting tiny dogs, but here we are! Martini and Brando would love a big dog,” she gushed, expressing her desire to adopt another canine companion in the future.
