Abby Lee Miller has expressed her delight over JoJo Siwa’s blossoming romance with Chris Hughes, describing the young star as “smitten.” During an exclusive interview with Us Weekly at the 10th anniversary celebration of “Juicy Scoop With Heather McDonald” on June 25, Miller, 59, shared her observations of the couple’s chemistry.
“I was with the two of them together at the opening of Universal Orlando’s new theme park, Epic Universe, and oh my god! She reminded me of myself with a young, hot guy,” Miller recalled, highlighting Siwa’s playful demeanor during their time together. The Dance Moms star noted how Siwa was “batting her eyelashes” and “looking over her shoulder” at Hughes, further emphasizing the mutual attraction. “I think it’s hilarious. I think it’s adorable,” she added, noting that Hughes seems equally taken with Siwa.
JoJo Siwa, 22, and Chris Hughes, 32, first crossed paths on the U.K. reality show Celebrity Big Brother in April, where they developed a strong friendship. Their romantic relationship was confirmed by Siwa in June, marking a new chapter in her personal life. The singer, who identifies as queer, has faced questions about her sexuality but has remained unapologetic about her journey.
Miller, who has been a mentor to Siwa since she was nine years old, praised her friend’s resilience and confidence. “You know what I always say? JoJo is laughing all the way to the bank. She doesn’t care,” Miller remarked. “I think that’s one thing I taught her that was very valuable. When you are in the limelight, you have to love what you do more than anything in the world, and you have to be proud of it.”
Siwa’s rise to fame began with her participation in Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition, followed by her iconic role on Dance Moms. Over the years, the two have maintained a close relationship, celebrating each other’s successes and supporting one another in their respective careers.
As Siwa embraces her new romance, Miller is busy with her own endeavors in the dance world. She is set to judge thousands of students at the Dance World Cup in Europe later this summer and continues to host her weekly podcast, “Leave It On the Dance Floor.”
Siwa’s recent message for Pride Month, where she shared her thoughts on love, acceptance, and celebration, resonates with her fans. “Happy day 1 of the happiest month,” she posted on her Instagram Story, accompanied by a series of rainbow hearts.
With both women thriving in their personal and professional lives, fans can look forward to seeing how their journeys unfold. As Abby Lee Miller aptly put it, “JoJo is grateful,” and her evolving relationship with Chris Hughes is just one of the many exciting chapters in her life.
