Troy Aikman, the legendary NFL Hall of Famer and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback, recently opened up about his famous neighbors, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, during an exclusive interview with Us Weekly. Aikman, who has been spending his summer at his property in Montecito, California, humorously noted that despite living nearby, he hasn’t had the chance to meet the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
“I haven’t run into them,” Aikman said, reflecting on life in the celebrity enclave. “But they are there, from what I can gather. I think anyone with a heartbeat knows that they’re out there. But I’m not hanging with them, that’s for sure.” He added with a laugh, “I don’t think they’re drinking much light beer,” referring to his own beverage brand, EIGHT Elite Light Beer.
Aikman, now 58, has been committed to maintaining his health and fitness, enjoying a few beers while still being “in the best shape of my life.” He emphasized the importance of mindful eating and exercise, stating, “I’m more mindful of what I’m eating and what I’m consuming. No processed foods. Those who know me know I love beer. But those who know me know I also love to work out.”
The former athlete, who retired in 2001 after a successful 12-season career, acknowledged that staying fit has become more challenging with age. “There’s no question it’s gotten harder to stay in shape as I’ve gotten older,” he admitted. This realization has led him to explore various unconventional health practices. “I’ve done all the biohacking stuff. I don’t even want to begin telling you how many hours it takes of my day, between workouts, saunas, cold plunges, hyperbaric chambers, all of it.”
Aikman’s dedication to health extends to his beer brand, EIGHT Elite Light Beer, which he created with a focus on healthier options in the alcohol market. “I think there is this trend towards wanting to be healthier that has never really been applied to the alcohol space,” he explained. “If you go down any aisle in the grocery store, there is a ‘better for you’ section in every aisle it seems. With EIGHT, there is now [that aisle] within the beer cooler.”
The low-calorie, low-carb beer has gained popularity, and Aikman recently unveiled a new slim can for summer drinking. He emphasized transparency in his product, stating, “We list our ingredients on our packaging. We have three ingredients: water, malt, and hops. We’re additive-free, and people are beginning to understand what that means. They don’t want all the syrups and sugars and all that added stuff. That’s really why I made the beer to begin with.”
As summer unfolds, Aikman continues to enjoy life in Montecito, even if he’s not sharing a drink with his royal neighbors. His lighthearted comments reflect a blend of humor and a serious commitment to health, making him a relatable figure for fans and health enthusiasts alike.
